A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), alongside two of his sons. The surrender occurred on Saturday along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo main supply route in Borno State, where the insurgent handed over his weapons to troops of the 3rd Battalion, operating under the 24th Task Force Brigade.
In an official statement released on Sunday by Headquarters OPHK Acting Media Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, initial profiling confirmed the insurgent as the Chief Finance Operative for the ISWAP stronghold at Jubillaram, where he managed the group’s financial accounts and supply chains. Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 in cash during the encounter. Captain Goni credited the surrender to ongoing, high-intensity land and air strikes targeting insurgent hideouts across the region.
Military leadership highlighted that losing a top logistics officer deals a major blow to ISWAP’s command system, financial network, and operational mobility, pointing to growing demoralization and rising defection rates within the group’s ranks. Military officials further disclosed that around 46 insurgents and their family members have turned themselves in to troops in recent days as a direct result of sustained combat pressure.
The surrendered operative and his children are presently undergoing in-depth profiling and intelligence questioning to assist future military operations. The Theatre Command renewed its appeal to remaining insurgents to abandon their campaign and take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic rehabilitation programs, while encouraging citizens to keep sharing actionable security information with local authorities.
