The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine disguised within 20 religious books destined for Saudi Arabia. In a statement issued on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the shipment contained 20 parcels of cocaine, weighing a total of 500 grams, cleverly hidden inside the pages of the books.

The substances were discovered on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, during a routine inspection of outbound packages at a courier facility in Lagos by operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI).

On the same day, at a separate courier company, NDLEA operatives also found five parcels of Loud, a strong variant of cannabis, weighing 2.8 kilograms. The drugs were concealed in a carton that had arrived from the United States.

In another development, NDLEA agents apprehended 40-year-old Basorun Usman Kayode, a fugitive linked to the 2023 seizure of 107 kilograms of Loud smuggled from Canada via the Tincan seaport in Lagos. Kayode had been evading arrest for two years. The agency also reported the arrest of one Dauda Yakubu on Monday, April 14. Yakubu is allegedly involved in distributing illegal drugs within the seaport area.
