Niger State Imposes Night Ban on Okada and Keke to Curb Thuggery, Criminal ActivitiesThe Niger State Government has announced a dusk-to-dawn restriction on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the state capital, Minna, as part of efforts to tackle the recent surge in criminal activities.

Governor Umar Bago disclosed the development during a security stakeholders meeting with traditional leaders and heads of security agencies, where he declared a new era of zero tolerance for thuggery in the state.

The ban, which runs from 6 pm to 6 am, follows the killing of a bank driver in the Fadikpe area of Minna on April 21, allegedly by suspected thugs. While emphasising that the restriction is temporary, the governor noted that individuals facing medical emergencies would be exempted.

Governor Bago warned community lleaders to maintain accurate records of residents in their areas and held them responsible for any lapses. He vowed to demolish buildings found to be sheltering criminals or used as drug hubs. He also directed security agencies in the state to intensify their crackdown on crime syndicates and their hideouts, specifically instructing them to target miscreants he described as “rascals with all manner of hairstyles.”
