Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, met with iconic highlife musician Bright Chimezie in Lagos.Clips posted on Instagram on Monday captured Davido exchanging warm greetings and sharing animated conversation with Chimezie, renowned for his distinct “Zigima” sound. This in-person meeting came after a recent video call between the two, during which Davido acknowledged Chimezie’s 2018 track “Because of English” as the creative spark for his own new release “With You,” featuring Omah Lay.
“I got inspiration from your song, God bless you” Davido said during the call, which was shared by nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest. In the exchange, Davido gave Chimezie a sneak peek of the “With You” video and extended an invitation to meet in Lagos, saying, “It would be nice to meet you face-to-face.”
Chimezie responded warmly, calling the new song “a beautiful piece of work” and commending Davido’s appreciation for his musical legacy.
