The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted seven containers carrying opioids and codeine-based syrup valued at N9.3 billion at the Port Harcourt Port Complex in Onne, Rivers State. According to a statement by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the operation was carried out between May 28 and 30 in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies. The seizures included 825,200 bottles of codeine syrup and trodol with an estimated street value of N5.77 billion, and 5.1 million pills of opioids, particularly tapentadol 225mg, worth N3.57 billion.

In a separate operation in Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives recovered 390 compressed blocks of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 275.3kg. The drugs were found in an abandoned Toyota Sienna along the Ngurore-Yola road on May 27.Meanwhile, in Kwara State, a well-known female drug dealer, Alhaja Mutiat Abdul-Fatai, was arrested on May 31 at Oja Oba, Ilorin. Various quantities of tramadol, flunitrazepam, and codeine syrup were confiscated during the arrest.

In Kano, two suspects, Abubakar Hussein (42) and Sahabi Adamu (53), were apprehended on May 30 along the Kano-Maiduguri road with \$900,000 in cash suspected to be counterfeit. The NDLEA stated that the suspects and the recovered currency would be handed over to the relevant agency for further investigation.

The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy during the week with sensitization lectures at schools across the country, including Government Day Senior Secondary School in Katsina, Corpus Christi College in Enugu, and Epignosis Standard College in Anambra.
