The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to appear before its investigators on Monday, December 22, or to send a representative to formally present and support his petition alleging corruption against Farouk Ahmed, the recently resigned Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Sources at the ICPC said a special panel of senior investigators, approved by Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), has been set up to examine the matter. Dangote, or his lawyer Ogwu Onoja (SAN), is expected to provide evidence to back the claims outlined in the petition submitted on December 16. The allegations include Ahmed living beyond his means, reportedly spending over $7 million on his four children’s education at prestigious Swiss schools, and issuing import licenses for petroleum products in alleged collusion with international oil traders—actions said to amount to economic sabotage and undermine local refining initiatives.

ICPC insiders noted that Ahmed’s resignation does not halt the investigation, which continues due to its public significance. “Resignation does not stop the probe,” a source said, stressing that Dangote must provide supporting documents. After the petition is formally adopted, Ahmed will be called to respond to the accusations. The commission assured that the process would be thorough and impartial under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, with potential penalties including up to five years’ imprisonment if found guilty. The case arises from ongoing 2025 disputes between Dangote Refinery and the NMDPRA over issues such as fuel quality standards and import permits. No charges have been filed, as the investigation is still underway.
