Portable, a Nigerian singer, has been arraigned at the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He faces charges related to an alleged attack on government officials.
The charges against him include conspiracy, serious assault, armed breach of public peace, and attempted murder through the recruitment of armed thugs. These charges are serious and carry significant penalties. These charges stem from an incident on February 5, 2025, where he allegedly led an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The officials were reportedly enforcing regulations at Portable’s bar in Sango Ota.
Portable had been declared wanted by the police earlier in the week but turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba on Wednesday. He was then transported to Ogun State Police headquarters. The Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Omotola Odetola, assured the public that due process would be followed and updates would be provided as necessary. The police are committed to ensuring that justice is served.
The incident that led to the charges occurred when officials were enforcing regulations at Portable’s bar in Sango Ota. Several officials sustained injuries, and nine of Portable’s associates were arrested at the scene.
Portable had managed to evade law enforcement until his recent surrender. In a related development, Portable had cried out after the government sealed his uncompleted building and hotel over illegal development. He claimed that he was being targeted unfairly.
He had also noted that he had to protect his families and properties first as he canceled his show in London. Portable had even made an emotional appeal to President Tinubu, to beg Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on his behalf. The singer had stated that he is a citizen of Ogun State, yet his state is mad at him for supporting Yayi. The case is ongoing, with Portable facing serious charges related to the alleged attack on government officials.
