Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed confidence in his squad, stating that Nigeria is blessed with talented players who deserve to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We have great players, and they need to go to the World Cup,” Chelle said during the post-match press conference after Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda, secured by a first-half brace from Victor Osimhen.
Despite the win, Chelle emphasized the need for improvement as the team continues its World Cup qualification campaign. “It was a tough game because Rwanda has a strong team and played well. Our players followed the game plan, and the victory was expected,” he noted.
“However, this is just the first game. We have another match in a few days, and we must win again.” The win moves Nigeria to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches, trailing new group leaders South Africa by four points. Next, the Super Eagles will host bottom-placed Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, while South Africa faces second-placed Benin in Abidjan on the same day.
