The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it is investigating allegations of a ₦10 million extortion made against some of its officers by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips. According to the commission, the officers involved have been suspended from all operational duties and summoned to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja pending the outcome of the investigation.

In a statement released by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC expressed deep concern over the allegations, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and accountability. “The EFCC views with serious concern the allegation of extortion made against some of its operatives by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, also known as Oladips,” the statement read.

“The artiste alleged that EFCC operatives extorted ₦10 million from him before securing his release after his arrest alongside other suspected internet fraudsters. However, the account given by the artiste does not represent the true picture of the EFCC.” The commission confirmed that it has begun an internal investigation into the matter.

“The officers involved have been summoned to the EFCC’s corporate headquarters and have been relieved of their operational responsibilities pending the conclusion of the inquiry,” Oyewale stated. He added that the EFCC would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any staff member found guilty of misconduct.

“At the same time, if the allegation is discovered to be false and intended to damage the commission’s reputation, the appropriate sanctions will also be applied,” the statement added. The EFCC urged the public to remain patient while the investigation continues and to maintain confidence in the commission’s dedication to fighting economic and financial crimes across the country.
