Nigerian social media influencer Bobrisky faced detention by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at Seme border last week, reportedly attempting to leave the country.

In a swift move, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arrested Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, at Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

The dramatic arrest occurred on Thursday, October 31, shortly after Bobrisky’s release on bail by Nigerian police authorities.

As Bobrisky prepared to board a London-bound flight, authorities intervened, halting the aircraft’s departure and escorting him off in plain sight of fellow passengers, eyewitnesses revealed.

Bobrisky, visibly distressed, took to Instagram shortly after, appealing to the public: “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and a fellow passenger, corroborated the arrest, sharing photos with Bobrisky before their flight departure. Fayose, a vocal critic of the Nigerian police’s treatment of Bobrisky, expressed concerns about the timing of the arrest.

“See who is on the same flight with me to London @bobrisky222,” he posted on Instagram, alongside a photo of them together.

Bobrisky has faced intense scrutiny lately, particularly after his detention by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at Seme border for allegedly attempting to flee the country.

The recent arrest has sparked further investigations into allegations that Bobrisky bribed EFCC officials ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

Additionally, controversy surrounds an audio recording where Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have served his six-month jail term outside Kirikiri prison due to influential connections.

In response, Bobrisky dismissed the recording as fake and threatened to sue social media critic VeryDarkMan for leaking the audio.

An investigative panel has since stated that there’s no evidence confirming Bobrisky served his jail term outside the prison facility. It’s worth noting that Bobrisky was previously convicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for mutilating Naira notes.
