In Awka, Anambra State, a tragic series of events has unfolded, claiming the lives of three brothers from the same mother, all victims of relentless cult violence.
The latest casualty, Nonso, fell prey to the violence on Saturday, November 2, in broad daylight, near Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, as reported by Channels TV.
According to a family source, Nonso’s killing is linked to the murder of his younger brother, Buchi, which occurred three months prior, near Mac Don Eatery.
This devastating sequence of events began with the loss of their eldest brother, who met a brutal end in a previous attack, leaving their mother with no surviving children.
The toll of cult-related violence in Awka now stands at twenty lives lost in recent weeks, reviving painful memories of the Nibo Massacre and Ifite killings.
Anambra State has long struggled with cult killings, particularly in Awka, where rival groups engage in deadly turf wars, shattering families and traumatizing communities.
Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam strongly condemned the latest killing and pledged a thorough investigation, vowing to apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo urged citizens to remain calm and reassured them of enhanced security measures aimed at restoring peace and security in Awka.
