Two suspected international fraudsters, Elvis (23) and Kelly (24), have been apprehended by the Zone-2 Police Command in Lagos for allegedly forging foreign certificates in Lagos and Ghana. In a bold attempt to secure their release, the suspects offered a staggering N66 million bribe to the police, which was promptly rejected. According to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Adegoke Fayaode, the suspects were arrested after a tip-off from Nigerians in the diaspora.

The police discovered forged certificates from foreign institutions, including Blue Crest College in Ghana, as well as luxury cars and properties acquired with illicit funds. Notably, this is not the first time the Zone-2 Police Command has rejected a substantial bribe. In November, they turned down a N174 million offer from another suspect.Detectives from the Anti-Corruption Unit arrested two suspects, Elvis and Kelly, for forging foreign certificates, including those from African universities.

The arrest was made possible by a tip from Nigerians in the diaspora, which led the detectives to a five-star hotel in Osapa-London, Lekki. The suspects attempted to escape but were caught at a bus stop. The suspects allegedly used the forged certificates to defraud unsuspecting victims online and acquired exotic cars and mansions with the proceeds. Police recovered several forged documents, including certificates from Blue Crest College in Ghana and Academic City College, linked to the suspects.

Elvis and Kelly confessed to purchasing the forged documents with the help of a Nigerian woman in Ghana. Their primary motive was to obtain Ghanaian residency permits, which they used to pose as students at Academic City University, despite never being admitted. The suspects paid 26,000 Ghana Cedis for the documents, claiming they needed them to avoid arrest in Ghana due to their lack of legitimate livelihood.
