Three individuals suspected to be involved in the abduction of Nigerian Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor have been apprehended by personnel of the Naval Unit in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Two of the suspects were directly involved in the abduction, while the third acted as an accomplice. The arrests reportedly took place in a community near Masaka, located in neighboring Nasarawa State.

Akor was abducted on March 21 alongside two civilians when armed men attacked the gate of Maman Vatsa Estate, blocked Mpape Road, and opened fire on passing vehicles. The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of N500 million for Akor and N200 million each for the civilians.

A combined security effort by the FCT Police Command and the military successfully rescued all three victims. While formally handing the suspects over to the police, Commodore Oluseyi Oladipo, Commander of the Naval Unit, credited the arrests to strong inter-agency cooperation in the FCT.

He stated, “The suspects have confessed to engaging in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities. They, along with relevant exhibits, have been transferred to the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.”

Despite the successful rescue, Oladipo noted that Abuja still grapples with serious security issues, including kidnappings, “one chance” robberies, and car thefts. He reaffirmed the Navy’s dedication to upholding the mission of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, in ensuring security on both land and sea.

Oladipo also thanked FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership and commitment to improving security across the capital, stating, “The base will maintain close cooperation with other security agencies to ensure the FCT remains safe and secure.”
