CSP Sentome Obi, the Bayelsa-born officer who refused a \$17,000 bribe to derail a sensitive investigation, has been celebrated for his integrity and professionalism. The Nigeria Police Force awarded him both the Police Officer of the Year 2024 and the IGP Integrity Award.
Following formal recognition by the Inspector-General of Police, Obi was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) effective December 31, 2024. The promotion aligns with the NPF’s new merit‑based promotion policy, which fast‑tracks officers who receive national honours in consecutive award cycles. His portrait is now displayed prominently at police headquarters across the country, serving as a symbol of integrity and a source of inspiration for the police.
This recognition represents a milestone in the ongoing effort to institutionalize ethics, transparency, and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force. By elevating officers like CSP Sentome Obi and modeling merit-based promotion, the Force under IGP Kayode Egbetokun is shaping a new culture rooted in honour and service.
In recognition of his outstanding ethical conduct, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State hosted a state banquet on July 23, 2025. Obi was also gifted a brand-new Toyota Corolla and a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow—marking an unprecedented state-level reward for exemplary conduct within public service.
