
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).He made the announcement during a meeting with state party leaders and supporters in Minna, the capital of Niger State, on Tuesday.
Al-Mustapha emphasized his willingness to lead Nigeria with integrity and a defined strategy to address the country’s challenges. He expressed concern over the nation’s current situation but maintained that with proper direction and commitment, Nigeria could recover.
He noted that his visit to Minna was part of a broader effort to engage with stakeholders across the country in preparation for the 2027 polls.According to his campaign media director, Jubril Umar Sanda, Al-Mustapha is “fully prepared for the journey ahead, ready to serve with integrity, courage, and a clear plan for progress.”
Before arriving in Minna, Al-Mustapha made a stop in Mokwa to show support for victims of a flood that affected over 200 residents. He highlighted the importance of effective leadership and national unity in addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues.
SDP Chairman in Niger State, Buhari Yarima, expressed support for Al-Mustapha’s candidacy, commending his commitment to serving the country and asserting that the party would be a significant contender in the 2027 elections with credible candidates and a clear agenda.
