Former senator Dino Melaye has officially been called to the bar, becoming a certified legal practitioner. He was among 5,734 individuals inducted at the call to bar ceremony held in Abuja, marking the largest number of inductees in the history of the Nigerian Law School.
Melaye previously represented Kogi West in the Senate and is known for his close alliance with former Senate President Bukola Saraki. He has consistently been a vocal critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
Before venturing into politics, Melaye was active in anti-corruption advocacy, particularly highlighting alleged misconduct within the House of Representatives. In 2023, he contested the Kogi State governorship election but lost to APC’s Usman Ododo.
During the ceremony, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, urged the new lawyers to uphold integrity, discipline, and a commitment to selfless service. Melaye’s entry into the legal profession is seen as a boost to his activism and political pursuits, adding a new layer of credibility and capacity to his public engagements.
