The wife of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has reportedly died after sustaining injuries during recent U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, according to Iranian state media.Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79, had been in a coma since the strikes on Saturday that reportedly claimed Khamenei’s life, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported.
Meanwhile, The Times of Israel stated that Mansoureh Khojasteh, 78, had remained unconscious following the attacks and noted that she and Khamenei were married in 1964. The developments come after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran over the weekend, following weeks of escalating tensions. In response, Iran reportedly carried out retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia. On Saturday, U.S. and Israeli forces reportedly killed Khamenei, with U.S. President Donald Trump announcing the development later that day.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This is not only justice for the people of Iran, but for all great Americans, and those from many countries around the world, who have been killed or harmed by Khamenei and his group,” he added.
In a post on Monday, United States Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that the number of U.S. service members killed in action during the operation had risen to four. Three other fatalities had been announced earlier over the weekend. “The fourth service member, who was seriously wounded during Iran’s initial attacks, later succumbed to their injuries,” Centcom stated, adding that major combat operations and response efforts are ongoing.
