Tragedy struck in Brazil when two social media influencers, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, drowned after refusing to wear life jackets on a boat that was capsized by a massive wave following a yacht party.

The vessel, severely overcrowded with seven passengers despite having a capacity of only five, sank off the notorious Devil’s Throat coast. According to Sao Vicente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino, the influencers declined to wear life jackets because they were taking selfies and didn’t want to ruin their tans. This devastating decision led to the loss of two lives.

Further investigation revealed that the boat’s captain, one of five survivors, had been instructed to transport six influencers despite the vessel’s limited capacity. When the boat was hit by a massive wave on September 29, it was unable to withstand the weight and began to sink. The skipper recounted his desperate attempts to save everyone, but unfortunately, Beatriz’s body was found drifting out to sea and recovered by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters. Aline’s remains were discovered later, washed ashore at Itaquitanduva Beach.

This heartbreaking incident raises concerns about the recklessness often associated with social media influencers who prioritize aesthetics over safety. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determining whether the fatalities resulted from negligence or tragic circumstance.

Authorities are investigating the tragic drowning of two social media influencers to determine if their deaths were an unavoidable accident or a preventable tragedy. Commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino stated, “All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.”

Heart-wrenching details have emerged about the victims. Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, a mother of one who couldn’t swim, had shared her final social media posts, posing confidently in a bikini on the boat. Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, a CrossFit trainer and former child model, also lost her life in the incident.

According to local reports, the survivors – Vanessa Audrey da Silva, Camila Alves de Carvalho, Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva – have shared their accounts. Vanessa recounted how the group had gathered for a luxury yacht party, spending the day cruising and socializing. As they returned to shore in two separate groups, one boat was overwhelmed by a massive wave.

Vanessa described her harrowing experience, revealing she managed to grab a life jacket and cling to rocks to survive. Her testimony provides valuable insight into the tragic events. She said: “There was a moment in the water when no one could see anyone. I was fighting for life.” Another survivor Camila says she clutched a life jacket in her hands and clung on for dear life.

She said: “There were very strong waves, we almost died. We didn’t know how to swim. I knew that I couldn’t take it for long. I hurt my foot and swallowed a lot of water. We threw ourselves into the rocks.”
