The Ekwulobia community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State has officially postponed its annual New Yam festival, originally scheduled for September 4, 2026, following the abduction of prominent businessman Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor.
Abduction of Chief Joseph EzeokaforChief Ezeokafor—founder and CEO of Jezco Group of Companies and father of social media celebrity Jowi Zaza—was reportedly kidnapped after stepping out of his residence without his security detail. The incident occurred during a prayer session on a mountain in Awka, where unknown gunmen intercepted him and took him to an undisclosed location.The abduction of the billionaire entrepreneur has thrown the Ekwulobia community into mourning and concern.
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, officially announced the indefinite suspension of the New Yam festival. Community leadership stated that Ekwulobia cannot hold its traditional celebrations while one of its most esteemed sons remains in the custody of captors. The decision marks a rare interruption to the annual cultural feast as local authorities and community members await further developments.
