The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has opposed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove the party leadership led by Senator David Mark from its official records, describing the move as politically driven.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the electoral body of acting under pressure from a government he claimed is unsettled by the growing strength of the opposition, despite attempts to weaken rival parties.

He argued that INEC misinterpreted the ruling of the Court of Appeal, adding that the commission’s statement contained inconsistencies that do not align with the facts or logical reasoning. According to him, the commission had yielded to external pressure and taken a position against the interest of Nigerians.

The controversy is linked to an ongoing legal battle over the party’s leadership, with two rival factions laying claim to control of the ADC structure. The Court of Appeal had earlier directed all parties involved to maintain the existing situation before the dispute began, pending the final ruling of the Federal High Court on the matter.
