Miami Beach has severed ties with Sean “Diddy” Combs, revoking his Key to the City due to mounting legal issues, including arrest, indictment, and multiple sexual assault lawsuits. This decision comes nine years after he received the honor.
The Miami Beach City Commission, led by Mayor Steven Meiner, unanimously voted to rescind Diddy’s recognition during a recent in-person hearing. Formalization of the decision is pending the mayor’s signature.
Diddy was awarded the Key to the City in 2015 for his contributions to the music industry and organizing the Revolt Music Conference in Miami Beach. Notable city commissioners Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez sponsored the award.
In June 2024, Miami Beach revoked “Sean Diddy Combs Day” (October 13th) following the release of a disturbing assault video involving Cassie. This decision preceded the current revocation.
Diddy has faced similar repercussions elsewhere, returning New York’s Key to the City in June after Mayor Eric Adams requested its return. Howard University also revoked his honorary degree due to sexual assault allegations.
The ongoing controversy surrounding Diddy has led to widespread reevaluation of his honors and affiliations, reflecting growing concerns over his alleged misconduct.
