Abia State Government Approves Monthly Stipends for Traditional Rulers

Governor Alex Otti’s administration has given its approval for the monthly payment of stipends to traditional rulers in Abia State. The stipends, ranging from N250,000 to N350,000, were announced by the Information Commissioner, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing.

The briefing, held on Monday, followed a meeting of the State Executive Council in Umuahia. Commissioner Kanu also disclosed that members of the Traditional Rulers Council would receive an additional N100,000 monthly.

The Abia State government has reaffirmed its commitment to recognizing the importance of traditional rulers in promoting the state’s cultural heritage. According to Commissioner Kanu, the government is dedicated to preserving the state’s rich cultural traditions.

In other developments, the Abia government has initiated a review of its 30-year development plan. The revised plan aims to reflect current economic realities. An economic team has been assembled to oversee this project and is expected to be inaugurated soon.

The state government has also reconstituted the State Harmonised Taskforce. The taskforce will focus on enforcing policies related to street trading and driving against traffic.

Commissioner Kanu emphasized the need for compliance with these policies, citing the negative consequences of street trading and reckless driving.In the education sector, the Abia government has begun implementing its out-of-school policy. Schools in the state reopened after the Yuletide holidays, marking the start of this initiative.

A special task force has been established to monitor compliance with the out-of-school policy. The task force aims to eradicate the phenomenon of out-of-school children in Abia.

Commissioner Kanu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing quality education and ensuring that all children have access to learning opportunities.The Abia State government remains dedicated to implementing policies and initiatives that promote the welfare and development of its citizens.
