The Lagos State Government has deployed four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites across the state, Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced at a press briefing in Lagos.

The installations, carried out in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, will complement existing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices to enhance road safety and streamline traffic management.

The new ITS sites will enable real-time traffic monitoring, improving the overall efficiency of traffic management in Lagos. The commissioner said checkpoint sites for speed monitoring were installed at Alapere (80 km/h limit) and Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony way (60 km/h limit).

“Checkpoint sites for speed detection are located at Alapere, Ogudu road (80 km/h limit), and Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way (60 km/h limit); these sites aim to reduce speeding, a leading cause of accidents,” the commissioner said.“These checkpoint sites are strategically located to detect and deter cases of speeding, which remain one of the leading causes of road accidents. “E-police sites for traffic violations are located at the Allen Avenue road junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo road. These sites detect violations like running red lights and illegal U-turns using high-definition cameras.”
