The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, in Imo State, has suspended a facilitator, Mr. Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, following a viral video showing him assaulting a male student.

The suspension was announced in a letter with reference number FPN/TEDC/80/1, dated March 14, 2025. It stated, “You are hereby suspended from duty as a facilitator in the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident that occurred on March 13, 2025, during your entrepreneurship training session.”

The letter, signed by the Director of TEDC, Dr. Okoye P.C., was also copied to the Rector, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the Student Union Government. In the video, which surfaced late Thursday, the facilitator was seen slapping a male student, Chidera, before kicking him, causing him to fall hard onto a cemented walkway and break his phone. After the assault, the facilitator walked away.

The video attracted widespread attention and criticism. Our correspondent observed that the facilitator, Okoroafor, sent an apology message to Chidera, stating: “Dear Chidera, LETTER OF APOLOGY TO MR. CHIDERA. I sincerely apologize for my behavior toward you. I deeply regret my actions, which were unacceptable and hurtful. As your teacher, my role was to create a safe and supportive learning environment, but instead, I acted in a way that intimidated and bullied you.”

Netizens circulated the suspension letter on social media, praising the institution’s prompt response. However, some questioned the absence of a fair hearing in the process.
