The Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, is back in operation following a fire outbreak on Monday night, February 17. The fire, which ignited along a section of the pipeline on the Bodo-Bonny road, was captured in videos circulating on social media, showing intense flames lighting up the sky.

The TNP, a vital federal oil transport route, supplies crude oil to the Bonny export terminal in Rivers State. As a result of the explosion, operations were temporarily halted, raising concerns about potential environmental damage and disruptions to the region’s oil supply.

Tony Okonedo, spokesperson for Renaissance Group, confirmed on Wednesday that operations had resumed. “We had previously suspended activities to address a third-party interference, but operations are now back on track,” Okonedo stated. The incident occurred amid rising political tensions in Rivers State.

On Monday, lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In response to the escalating crisis, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on Tuesday. He also suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state assembly, appointing retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to oversee the state’s administration.
