Youths Protest at GTBank Branch in Abuja Over VeryDarkMan’s Arrest by EFCCA group of young Nigerians held a protest outside a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in the Federal Capital Territory, waving the national flag and carrying placards in reaction to the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

VDM was taken into custody on Thursday, May 2, 2025, shortly after visiting the GTBank location in Area 3, Garki, Abuja. The circumstances surrounding his arrest have sparked outrage, with accusations that GTBank collaborated with the EFCC in orchestrating the detention.

Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju alleged that VDM was deliberately locked inside the bank’s exit door for several minutes, giving EFCC operatives time to apprehend him. He described the event as a setup and promised to take legal action against the bank. According to Adeyanju, legal representation for VDM, led by lawyer Marvin Omorogbe, was able to locate him in EFCC custody.

The charges against VDM have not been publicly disclosed, but the arrest has stirred concerns about the use of anti-corruption agencies to suppress critical voices. VDM is known for his outspoken views on governance and corruption in Nigeria, often calling out public figures.

Online reactions have been intense, with Nigerians accusing the EFCC and GTBank of stifling free speech. Protesters at the bank demanded full disclosure on the arrest and called for VDM’s immediate release. Source : https://saharareporters.com/
