Katsina State Government has requested the cancellation of the recent English language examination conducted by the West African Examination Council. The appeal was made following a nationwide delay that caused the exam to begin several hours later than scheduled on Wednesday.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, announced the state’s stance during a visit to the WAEC office in Katsina. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the petition, which called for the cancellation, was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Ummukhair Ahmed. WAEC attributed the delay to increased measures aimed at preventing exam malpractice and curbing question paper leaks.
Musa-Musawa said students were forced to sit for the exam at night without adequate lighting, relying on torches, phone lights, and security lamps. She urged schools, parents, and communities to remain patient as they await the response to the petition.
