The Cross River Government has refuted reports of 10 new symptomatic COVID-19 cases, labeling the claims misleading and maintaining that the state has only one confirmed infection. This clarification follows a national news report that sparked public concern regarding a potential outbreak.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, previously confirmed that the sole active case involves a Chinese national who is currently responding to treatment. In a statement released Thursday in Calabar, Ayuk confirmed that as of April 23, 2026, there are no additional confirmed or suspected cases in the state.

He clarified that the 10 individuals mentioned in recent reports are actually contacts being traced from the single existing case. He noted that these individuals are asymptomatic and do not meet the criteria for “suspected cases,” though they are currently undergoing mandatory home isolation and daily monitoring by health officials as a standard precaution.

Ayuk urged residents to ignore unverified information and rely exclusively on official updates from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. He emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and encouraged the public to remain calm while adhering to established safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
