The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun construction of a turn-in-turn-out (TITO) connection along the 330kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe transmission line to link the new Bauchi 330kV Transmission Substation to the national grid.According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, construction began on June 10 and is scheduled for completion by June 14. During the construction period, power supply to the Gombe and Biu transmission substations will be maintained through the Dadin-Kowa Hydro Power Plant and the Maiduguri Substation, with additional support from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).

Mbah noted that there would be a temporary reduction in bulk electricity supply to the Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies, affecting customers in Bauchi, Gombe, Ashaka, Savannah, Damaturu/Potiskum, and Biu. However, only Yola and Jalingo are expected to experience full outages during the five-day project period.

She explained that a new transmission tower is being erected as part of the project to enhance the network’s flexibility and resilience. Once completed, the Bauchi and Gombe substations will serve as mutual backups, while the Jos Substation will be able to supply the Bauchi Substation directly via a 132kV line if the 330kV line through Gombe becomes unavailable.

This upgrade is expected to strengthen power reliability, diversify transmission routes, and improve emergency response capacity.Mbah reaffirmed TCN’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and called for patience from affected consumers, assuring that normal supply will resume immediately after the project is completed.

In line with the TITO works, TCN has officially notified electricity distribution companies in the Northeast about the expected disruption. A letter signed by the Regional Operations Manager, Bauchi Region, Engr J.O. Joseph, stated that the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV line would be affected during the project duration from June 10 to June 14.
