Veteran Nigerian highlife musician Bright Chimezie is experiencing a resurgence as his 1984 hit *Because of English* entered the Spotify Nigeria Viral Chart, 41 years after its release. The track debuted at No. 99 on May 20, 2025, and rose to No. 65, marking his first-ever appearance on a Spotify chart.

The renewed interest followed Davido’s revelation that the track inspired his hit *With You* featuring Omah Lay. A viral video of Davido meeting Chimezie in Lagos further fueled the momentum, prompting fans across generations to rediscover Chimezie’s signature Zigima Sound — a lively mix of highlife, funk, and socially conscious lyrics.

This revival underscores the enduring relevance of Nigerian musical roots and the role of contemporary artists in reintroducing classic sounds to a new audience.
