9mobile, a telecommunications company in Nigeria, has rebranded as T2, adopting a vibrant orange colour scheme and a forward-looking digital vision. The new identity was unveiled during the “Tech Meets Tenacity” launch event at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos, on Friday.
Obafemi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), described the rebrand as the start of a bold new era for the company, signalling its transformation into a customer-focused, technology-driven, API-enabled operator. He highlighted plans to deliver faster, smarter, and more personalised services through cloud-native infrastructure and data analytics.
Banigbe emphasised that technology now shapes business operations, culture, and human connection, noting Nigerians’ growing demand for speed, access, and relevance. He praised the resilience and tenacity of Nigerians, adding that the company remains “proudly Nigerian” despite challenges and setbacks.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, commended mobile network operators for their investment in Nigeria’s digital growth, citing over ₦75 billion spent on infrastructure and the sector’s 16% contribution to GDP. He urged T2 to make the rebrand a renewed commitment to innovation, service quality, and support for millions of Nigerians.
Previously operating as Etisalat Nigeria and later 9mobile, the network saw its active subscribers drop to 3.2 million by early 2025. The rebrand comes about a year after LH acquired a 95.5% stake in the company, marking its second name change since its 2017 transition from Etisalat to 9mobile.
