Tyler Perry, widely recognized for movies such as Acrimony and the Madea comedy franchise, is facing a \$260 million sexual assault lawsuit following allegations made by actor Derek Dixon, who played Dale in Perry’s BET drama The Oval. In his first televised interview with ABC News on September 9, 2025, Dixon alleged that Perry fostered a manipulative environment that blurred professional boundaries and left him anxious about his career.

He claimed that Perry pulled down his underwear and touched him inappropriately at the producer’s Atlanta residence. “I was constantly under pressure, worried I might lose my role or be written off the series if I didn’t comply,” Dixon said. Explaining the scale of the damages, he stated that the lawsuit reflects both personal losses and the need to deter misconduct. “Part of that figure covers my lost role, income, and opportunities. The rest is meant as a deterrent—how do you stop a billionaire who won’t stop himself from doing this?” he explained.

Dixon further accused Perry of breaking a promise to produce a pilot he had written, which he alleged Perry still retains. Despite the risks of going public, Dixon said he chose to speak out “to protect future generations of actors and creatives,” stressing: “Never exploit someone’s ambitions to force them into a relationship. That is unprofessional.”

In response, Perry’s lawyer, Matthew Boyd, dismissed the accusations, saying: “This is an individual who drew close to Tyler Perry in what now looks like an elaborate scam. Tyler will not be extorted, and we are certain these baseless harassment claims will not hold.”

Dixon began working on Perry’s projects in 2020 and lodged a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in January 2024 before departing The Oval later that year. His lawsuit, filed in June 2025, has intensified attention on workplace harassment and power dynamics in Hollywood. At present, Dixon is the only publicly identified accuser, while Perry has firmly denied all allegations.
