The standoff between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and the Senate appears to be easing after her office was officially unsealed. On Tuesday, personnel from the Sergeant-at-Arms, supported by security agencies, reopened Office 205 in the Senate wing, which is assigned to her. The development is seen as a major step toward her return to legislative duties ahead of the Senate’s resumption on October 7, 2025.

Her office was unsealed following a leadership meeting held on Monday. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had been suspended in March 2025 after a dispute over the reassignment of her seat in February. The Senate accused her of violating its Standing Orders and imposed a six-month suspension, which expired in September.

She contested the suspension in court, arguing it was unjust. In July, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja criticized the length of the suspension, saying it was excessive and left her constituents without representation.

Despite the criticism, Senate officials maintained that the suspension was based on procedural breaches, not gender or personal issues. The Clerk of the National Assembly, through Acting Clerk Yahaya Danzaria, insisted the suspension would last until a Court of Appeal ruling on her case.
