The 50-year-old former Manchester United midfielder and England captain was officially knighted during a ceremony on Tuesday, following his inclusion in the King’s Birthday Honours earlier this year.Sir David’s wife, Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girl turned fashion designer, attended the event and now holds the title of Lady Beckham. “It’s a very proud day for us as a family,” said the football legend, who won 19 major trophies over the course of his career.

“I grew up in the East End of London in a humble family. My dream was always to become a professional footballer — to play for my country and for Manchester United. Everything that has followed has been incredible, but to be honoured by one of the most respected institutions in the world is a truly proud moment.” He added, “The monarchy has always been important to my family. To be here receiving a knighthood from His Majesty the King feels surreal.”

Beckham began his professional football career at Manchester United, where he made 394 appearances and scored 85 goals, before moving on to play for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.He earned 115 caps for England — the third-highest in the nation’s history — and captained the team 59 times. Beyond football, Beckham has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005 and founded the 7 Fund, which supports vulnerable children worldwide.

In addition, he was appointed an ambassador for the King’s Foundation last year, an educational charity established by King Charles in 1990. Reflecting on his charitable work, Beckham said, “Everything I do comes from love. I’m not forced to do it or doing it out of obligation — I do it because it matters. “I think it’s largely because of the career I’ve had, the teams I’ve played for, the achievements, and the respect I’ve earned along the way. People listen, and that’s a powerful thing to have in charity work. I quickly realised that I could make a difference through the things I said and the causes I supported, and that’s what keeps it meaningful for me.”
