The Plateau State Government says it has recovered more than 60 public assets, including buildings, vehicles and construction equipment, as part of an ongoing effort to reclaim properties allegedly diverted or unlawfully occupied across the state. The Chairman of the Taskforce on Recovery of Government Properties, retired General Nash Yakubu, disclosed this while presenting an interim report to the Chief of Staff to the Plateau State Government, Jerry Satmak, in Jos.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s aide, Precious Yohanna, confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that the recovery exercise is still underway. According to officials, the task force has successfully reclaimed over 60 buildings alongside several vehicles and pieces of construction equipment.Yakubu explained that assets which could not be moved to Jos were secured at various local government headquarters, while those recovered within the Jos metropolis have been relocated to a central holding facility.
He noted that although the interim report captures substantial progress, the recovery exercise remains active, with more discoveries being made as operations continue. According to him, the task force has benefited from strong public cooperation, which has helped uncover more government assets across the state.
Yakubu said the committee adopted a “See something, say something” approach to encourage residents to report suspected cases of diverted or hidden government property. To support the initiative, he said dedicated phone lines and an official email address were created to receive public tips, while regular television briefings have also been used to engage citizens.
Receiving the report on behalf of the state government, Chief of Staff Jerry Satmak praised the task force for its dedication and effectiveness in carrying out its assignment. He assured the committee of the state government’s continued support and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to recovering all public assets for proper use in the interest of Plateau residents.
Also present during the presentation were the Commissioner for Works, Joshua Ubandoma Laven; Commissioner for Lands, Peter Nyam Gai; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Keziah Ishaya Dung; and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Solomon Abiri Kadiya.
