Afrobeats singer Davido has revealed that he would prefer his children to pursue careers within his family’s business empire instead of entering the entertainment industry. In an interview on The Breakfast Club, he explained that he often advises his children to explore roles within the family’s corporate structure. He pointed to the deep sense of fulfilment his father finds in family life, despite his immense wealth, as a major influence on this perspective.
He shared that his father places high value on spending time with his grandchildren, especially during the Christmas holidays when he takes them on trips. According to Davido, these moments bring his father more joy than material possessions, shaping his own understanding of success and happiness. Davido also recounted how his father was initially reluctant about his decision to go into music but eventually supported him after seeing his strong determination. While he does not intend to strictly control his children’s choices, he admitted that he would rather guide them toward more stable career options.
He added that even though one of his daughters has already shown an interest in singing and dancing, he still hopes his children will consider opportunities within the family business network. Davido said, “Omo, go and work with my dad. Every Christmas, my dad takes all the grandkids with him. And I could just see that, among all the things he has, including multiple private jets and all that, his happiness is seeing his grandchildren.
“And my father is single. So I just saw his happiness, and I’m like, meh, this is like what life is all about. As much as my dad didn’t really want me in the entertainment industry, he didn’t overkill my dream; he saw that this boy is really adamant about doing this. I wouldn’t want to do that to my kids as well. My daughter is already singing and dancing.”
