Stanley Amandi, a Nollywood filmmaker and actor, has been arrested alongside several military officers accused of plotting to violently overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.According to a report by Premium Times, Amandi, a director and former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was taken into custody in September 2025.
Sources said the actor was allegedly engaged as a propagandist by the suspected coup plotters, who were accused of planning attacks against senior government officials.Government officials familiar with the investigation disclosed last year that the alleged plot involved a violent takeover, with President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas reportedly identified as targets.
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of a plan to unlawfully remove the Tinubu administration, announcing that the implicated officers would face trial before military judicial panels. In a statement, the Defence Headquarters said investigations had been completed and submitted to the appropriate superior authority in line with existing regulations. It described the probe as thorough, noting that it reviewed all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the personnel involved.
The military added that the findings pointed to several officers accused of plotting against the government, actions it said were incompatible with the ethics, values and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Amandi has appeared in and worked on numerous Nollywood projects as an actor, production manager and director. His film credits include The Album, Tiger King (2008), which he directed and produced, Cornerstone (2019), and Once Upon a Dream (2024). His last post on Instagram was on September 19, 2025, shortly before his arrest.
