The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the public about the circulation of suspected counterfeit and unregistered toothpaste products in Kaduna State, cautioning that they may pose serious health risks. In a public alert (No. 022/2026), the agency revealed that its Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate received a complaint about fake toothpaste being distributed under the Colgate brand name.

Following the report, NAFDAC officials inspected a retail outlet where the products were allegedly sold and found two questionable items labelled Coglaet ActivGel 100g and Coglaet Herbal 100g. The agency stated that the products are not registered or approved, raising concerns about their safety, quality, and authenticity.

According to NAFDAC, the shop owner said the items were obtained from a door-to-door sales agent but could not provide any receipts or documentation to support the claim. The products were subsequently seized from the store. NAFDAC stressed that counterfeit and unregistered regulated products do not pass through necessary quality control and regulatory processes, making them potentially dangerous to consumers.

The agency added that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for distributing the fake products. It advised consumers to stay alert and report any suspected substandard or falsified products to the nearest NAFDAC office, through its toll-free line (0800-162-3322), or via email at [sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng](mailto:sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng). NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that only approved and safe products are available across the country.
