Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has secured a place among the 2026 inductees of the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF). The honour, set to be formally conferred at a ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia, celebrates his far-reaching impact on the international music scene.
The recognition reflects Davido’s major influence in elevating African music onto the global stage. His string of hit records, electrifying performances across continents, and collaborations with international stars have helped position Afrobeats as a dominant force in modern music. Davido’s rise in the music industry began in the early 2010s. Though born into privilege, he established his own identity through talent and persistence. He first gained attention with “Back When” in 2011, before “Dami Duro” became his breakout anthem, earning widespread acclaim and redefining standards for Nigerian pop with its bold sound and visual appeal.
Over the years, he has evolved from a local favourite into an international music powerhouse. Songs like “Fall,” which broke records on Billboard, and “If,” which blended African rhythms with mainstream pop appeal, marked key milestones in his journey. His body of work, including Omo Baba Olowo, A Good Time, A Better Time, and the Grammy-recognised Timeless, has solidified his place among Afrobeats’ leading figures.
The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame was created to honour and preserve the legacy of Black creatives whose work has shaped culture worldwide. Inductees receive the “Crown Jewel of Excellence,” with their names permanently engraved in the historic district’s walkway. By selecting Davido, the organisation underscores African music’s growing influence as a major pillar of global Black entertainment.
Beyond music, organisers also acknowledged Davido’s contributions in business and philanthropy. Guided by his “We Rise by Lifting Others” philosophy, he has consistently supported orphanages and funded scholarships for students across Nigeria. With this latest milestone, Davido joins a distinguished list of celebrated entertainers. The induction reflects years of dedication and his unwavering mission to elevate African music globally, while opening doors for emerging talents across the continent.
