Halima Abubakar, a suspended Nollywood actress, has taken legal action against Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
Abubakar is seeking N30 billion in damages from Rollas, following her suspension announcement on his social media platform, stemming from allegations of defaming fellow Nollywood colleagues.
The suspension was reportedly due to Abubakar’s alleged role in slandering industry peers.
However, Abubakar countered the accusations, stating she was never contacted or given a chance to respond to the claims before the suspension announcement.
In a letter dated October 20, 2024, Abubakar’s legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, alleged that Rollas intentionally damaged her reputation.
“Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a false narrative. This has caused her emotional distress and harmed her reputation in society.”
Halima Abubakar’s lawyers have demanded that Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), immediately remove the defamatory post from his Instagram page and issue a public apology. They’re also seeking N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.
The solicitors’ letter ended with a stern warning, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the consequences of not complying with their demands. “Unless these demands are met in 7 days, we are instructed by our client to pursue appropriate legal action.”
