Brazilian football icon Roberto Carlos has spoken out against claims that he has been sleeping at Real Madrid’s training facility due to his ongoing and highly publicized divorce. The 51-year-old former Real Madrid star took to social media to dismiss the allegations as “fabricated stories” and to protect his family’s privacy.

Carlos issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) to address the rumors surrounding his living arrangements. He wrote,

“In recent days, I have become aware of false and damaging stories circulating about me and my family. While I value privacy,”I feel compelled to address the baseless rumours about my living situation. “These fabricated stories are entirely false and seem designated to generate clicks. “I remain at a private residence, supported by members of my family.”

My legal team is reviewing these claims and will take appropriate action. I ask for privacy regarding personal matters and thank those who continue to support me during this time.”

The rumors had been fueled by a report from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, which claimed that Carlos had been forced to sleep at the Valdebebas training ground due to his divorce from his wife of over 15 years, Mariana Lucon. The divorce battle between Carlos and Lucon is reportedly worth £133 million, adding to the media frenzy surrounding the situation. Carlos’s statement aimed to set the record straight and maintain his family’s privacy amidst the highly publicized divorce proceedings.

Reports suggest that Roberto Carlos’s estranged wife, Mariana Lucon, has taken control of their main residence, while her family members occupy a secondary property. The couple, who have two daughters, Manuela and Mariana, are currently embroiled in a bitter legal battle over Carlos’s vast £133m fortune.

Regarded by many as one of the greatest left-backs in football history, Roberto Carlos forged an iconic career at Real Madrid. After joining the club from Inter Milan in 1996, the Brazilian sensation won over fans with his explosive speed, powerful left-footed shots, and exceptional defensive and offensive skills.

During his illustrious 11-year stint at Real Madrid, Roberto Carlos amassed over 500 appearances, scoring 70 goals and cementing his status as a Los Blancos legend. His signature free-kick style, marked by devastating power and pinpoint accuracy, yielded some of the most unforgettable goals in football history, including his stunning 1998 strike against Tenerife.

As a key player at Real Madrid, Roberto Carlos collected an impressive haul of trophies, including four La Liga championships and three UEFA Champions League titles. Even after his departure from the club in 2007, his enduring legacy continues to inspire admiration, solidifying his position as one of Real Madrid’s greatest players of all time.
