The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn an arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Onyedikachi, aka Eezee Tee, former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
Justice Alexander Owoeye had issued a bench warrant against Eezee Tee last week, following an ex parte order filed by the EFCC. However, the commission later requested the court to withdraw the warrant.
The EFCC’s lawyer, Bilikisu Buhari, made the request to withdraw the warrant. This development comes after Mercy Chinwo accused Eezee Tee of diverting $345,000 in royalties from her digital platforms and events.
Eezee Tee had denied the allegations, accusing Mercy Chinwo of being ungrateful and breaching their contract. The manager’s legal representative appealed to the court, stating that Eezee Tee was unaware of the previous summons. The representative assured the court of Eezee Tee’s voluntary appearance in court, leading to the resolution to withdraw the arrest warrant. However, the EFCC agreed to withdraw the warrant on the condition that Eezee Tee would honour future court appearances.
Following the conclusion, the case was adjourned to February 14, 2025, for Eezee Tee’s arraignment. The withdrawal of the arrest warrant indicates a temporary reprieve for Eezee Tee. The case has sparked interest in the music industry, with many following the developments. The outcome of the case will determine the fate of Eezee Tee and serve as a precedent for similar cases in the future.
