British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua decides to leave UK and relocate to Dubai despite Middle East tensionsBritish-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has reportedly decided to leave the United Kingdom and move to Dubai. The unexpected decision comes as the former heavyweight champion plans to settle in the Middle Eastern city.

The 36-year-old confirmed plans to become a resident of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, even as tensions continue between the United States and Iran. Dubai has reportedly been among locations targeted by Iranian strikes following America’s initial attack. Joshua, who was born in Watford to Nigerian parents, represented United Kingdom at the 2012 London Olympics where he won a gold medal in boxing. However, reports say he is now preparing to leave the country he once represented.

According to documents filed on Friday concerning his £150 million business empire, Joshua was required to state his country of residence — paperwork that revealed his decision to relocate to Dubai. The documents suggest the boxer maintained his plans to change his residential status despite the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

Over the past two weeks, the United Arab Emirates has reportedly faced missile and drone attacks from Iran. The situation has led to more than 100,000 British nationals leaving the region and returning to the United Kingdom.
