In a historic match, Ivory Coast achieved the unfortunate distinction of recording the lowest total ever in a men’s T20I, bowled out for a mere seven runs by Nigeria on Sunday.

This dismal performance surpassed the previous record of 10 runs, set by the Isle of Man against Spain in 2023 and matched by Mongolia against Singapore in September.

Nigeria dominated the T20 World Cup sub-regional Africa qualifier, electing to bat first and amassing an impressive 271-4 in 20 overs. Selim Salau’s remarkable 112 runs from 53 balls and Isaac Okpe’s unbeaten 65 runs from 23 balls, including six sixes and three fours, propelled Nigeria to victory.

In stark contrast, Ivory Coast’s batting lineup crumbled, with opener Ouattara Mohamed scoring a meager four runs before being dismissed. The team’s innings folded in a mere 7.3 overs without a single boundary.

Only three Ivory Coast players, Mimi Alex, Maiga Ibrahim, and Dje Claude, managed to score a single run each, while six batters were dismissed without scoring. Ladji Ezechiel remained unbeaten on zero as Ivory Coast was bowled out for seven runs, marking the first single-digit team total in a men’s T20I.

Nigeria emerged victorious by a staggering 264 runs, although this margin of victory fell short of the record 290-run win by Zimbabwe against Gambia in Nairobi last month. The tournament is part of the qualification process for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
