Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave Saudi Arabia for treatment after suffering an injury, as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East. Questions about the 41-year-old’s whereabouts emerged after his £61 million private jet departed the country in the middle of the night on Monday. It was later confirmed he was still in Saudi Arabia after he was photographed with his teammates.

The former Manchester United forward has been dealing with a hamstring problem following Al-Nassr FC’s 3–1 victory over Al-Fayha FC on Saturday. Reports now suggest the injury is more serious than initially believed, raising concerns with the FIFA World Cup approaching.

Al-Nassr manager Jorge Jesus said medical tests showed the injury was worse than expected. He explained that Ronaldo will travel to Madrid in Spain for treatment, noting that other players have previously gone there when dealing with injuries.

Jesus added that the Portuguese star will undergo therapy in Madrid with his personal physiotherapist and expressed hope that he will recover quickly and return to help the team. Riyadh, where Ronaldo lives with partner Georgina Rodríguez and his five children, has recently been targeted by Iran in retaliation for a wave of attacks launched by the United States and Israel that began on Saturday.

The United States Embassy in Riyadh was reportedly struck by two drones overnight on Monday, while Iranian state media claimed that a command and staff building in Bahrain had also been destroyed. On Friday, Saudi Arabia said its air defences had shot down three drones east of Riyadh as Iran continued its attacks across the Gulf region.
