Relief has spread across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) legal community after a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and lawyer, Ms. Linda Ameh, was found in Abuja. The FCT Police Command confirmed on Sunday that Ameh, who was declared missing on May 6, has been located, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said Ameh personally reported herself to the Maitama Police Station, where she is currently assisting investigators with useful information.According to the police, efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident, as the case remains under active investigation.
Family sources also confirmed that Ameh was found safe and unharmed on Sunday morning, bringing an end to several days of anxiety over her whereabouts.“She has been found unharmed this morning,” a family member said, confirming her recovery. Ameh, who was serving as a corps member and working as a legal practitioner, was reportedly abducted on Tuesday, May 6, shortly after closing from her workplace at Blades and Butchers Ltd in the Maitama area around 5:40 p.m.
Her disappearance was promptly reported to the Maitama Division of the FCT Police Command and the NYSC, as concern grew after her phone lines became unreachable while she was reportedly heading home to the Life Camp area. Family members had earlier alleged that the suspected abductors contacted them, demanding a ransom of N20 million for her release, heightening fears over her safety and prompting calls for urgent intervention by security agencies. Police said investigations are ongoing to determine how the incident occurred and to ensure those behind it are brought to justice.
