As political tensions continue to mount around Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, one of his close allies has insisted that the governor successfully passed the APC screening process, despite the controversy that followed his sudden walkout during the exercise.
The development comes amid conflicting narratives over the outcome of the screening session held on Sunday, which has further fueled speculation about the governor’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections. Chijioke Ihunwo, a former chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State and a known supporter of Fubara, took to social media to congratulate the governor, describing his screening as successful and affirming that he had been cleared by the party’s election committee to participate in the APC primary.
“Formally and personally, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, on his successful screening and clearance by the Election Committee to contest in the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Ihunwo wrote in a post that gained attention among supporters.
Ihunwo, who also previously served as chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Rivers State and the South-South region, expressed confidence in the governor’s political prospects despite ongoing internal tensions and rivalries within the APC. His remarks come against the backdrop of continued political realignments and uncertainty within the party in Rivers State, as stakeholders debate Fubara’s position and future ambitions ahead of the next election cycle.
