Veteran singer Konga has claimed he is entitled to 60 percent of the earnings from Burna Boy’s song “Update,” alleging that the Grammy-winning artist sampled his work without permission. Speaking on a recent episode of the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga said Burna Boy failed to contact him even after he publicly raised the issue in a peaceful manner months earlier.

He expressed frustration that Burna Boy reportedly agreed to give Toni Braxton 60 percent of the royalties from his 2022 hit “Last Last,” which sampled her song “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” but did not extend the same gesture to him. Questioning the situation, Konga said that if such an arrangement could be made with Toni Braxton, Burna Boy should have at least approached him for discussions before using his material.

Despite the dispute, Konga revealed that he has held back his lawyers from taking legal action because he admires Burna Boy’s music and takes pride in his role in promoting African music globally. He also pointed out that Burna Boy had previously drawn from his lyrics in the remix of “Sungba” with Asake. Konga added that since Burna Boy did not respond to his request to collaborate on a remix of his classic track “Kabakaba,” he has now decided to sample Burna Boy’s work without seeking permission.
