The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as Killaboi, from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria, where he will face charges for the alleged murder of 21-year-old university student, Augusta Onuwabhagbe.
Nnayereugo, who was declared wanted in October 2023, arrived in Nigeria early Saturday following coordinated efforts involving the Nigeria Police, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL NCB Abuja, and Qatari authorities. According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the extradition followed a petition submitted by the victim’s family through their legal counsel on September 29, 2024. The case was then handed to INTERPOL for investigation.
Authorities allege that Nnayereugo murdered Onuwabhagbe— a top-performing student at Lead City University—at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023. After the incident, he fled the country and posted a video online allegedly confessing to the crime, which police say was a tactic to mislead investigators.
A red notice was issued by INTERPOL, and he was apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on October 20, 2023, using a false identity. However, he escaped custody during a prison break on November 26, 2023. Subsequent intelligence revealed he traveled across West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East under forged identities. He ultimately settled in Doha, Qatar, in January 2025 under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye,” using a fake Guinean passport to find work and stay hidden.
Using biometric verification and international collaboration, INTERPOL NCB Abuja and its counterpart in Doha confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February. A formal extradition request was approved, allowing for his return to Nigeria. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the collaborative international efforts that led to the suspect’s capture and extradition. He also reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
The Lagos State Police had earlier declared Nnayereugo wanted, describing him as a 26-year-old from Abia State, around 5’9″ tall, dark-skinned, and fluent in English, Igbo, and Pidgin. The public had been urged to assist with any information on his whereabouts before his arrest.
