MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the cost of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent, bringing the price down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000. The company announced the decision on Tuesday as part of efforts to attract new subscribers and address declining user numbers. In a statement issued by CEO John Ugbe, the company said the price reduction was aimed at rewarding loyal customers and enhancing value delivery.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” Ugbe stated. He explained that the “We Got You” campaign is designed to make premium content more accessible and to position DStv as a platform with something for everyone, not just sports enthusiasts.

By focusing on daily value, the company hopes to encourage content discovery across a wide range of genres, including movies, series, children’s content, and news. “This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” the statement said.In addition to the price cut, MultiChoice launched a limited-time promotional offer. From June 16 to July 31, 2025, customers who pay for their current subscription in full will receive a free upgrade to the next package tier.

The company stated that both the decoder discount and the free upgrade were introduced in response to the economic challenges many Nigerians are currently facing. The announcement comes after a notable subscriber decline, with MultiChoice reportedly losing 1.4 million users between March 2023 and March 2025. It also follows multiple price hikes on DStv and GOtv packages, implemented in April 2023, November 2023, and most recently in May 2024.
